My name is Anne Rolfes, and I am new to Crisis Mappers though by this afternoon we hope to have a Gulf Coast Oil Spill Crisis Map set up.
We need help, advice, etc. Tulane students have helped us to get the site up and running, but our tech contact is leaving for Thailand. We would love the benefit of your experience. I also sadly noticed there aren't a whole lot of humanitarian practitioners in the group, at least on the international side. OpenStreetMap started in 2004 and the rate of contributions is accelerating with four times as many people contributing to the project in 2008 compared to 2007

- I keep seeing all these articles about the work of Ushahidi in Haiti and crowdsourcing technology in humanitarian emergencies and I can't help but be amazed and inspired. It's clear that the response to humanitarian emergencies have come a long way when a mass of geographically distant people can make a substantial contribution to the effort in a way other than organizing money and goods. Crowdsourcing has effectively reduced the distance between those affected by disasters in a far away land...
